Another question I have, coming from a solidworks environment in the past, you could set display states

For example I could have the bottom of a tool with all components turned on and clip "top" display state and it would turn off all bottom and turn on all top

Can this be done in NX 8.5

The example above can be done with invert hidden, but it would be nice to have say stage 1 upper, stage 1 lower --etc saved as a display state

We use layers, for all top and all bottom right now but I was in a review yesterday and I had all bottom of a tool turned on and we wanted to show a cam driver from the top in position, I had turn on the top layer and turn off everything except the cam driver---would have been nice to have a display state with the bottom on and cam driver only in place

Thanks for any info

Actually we're working on something like that for the next version of NX, something called 'Display Bookmarks', where you can save a sort of 'snapshot' of the display status of your model which can be recalled later when needed. So in your example, you could create two 'Display Bookmarks' which you could switch between as needed.

You can do that today with bookmarks. Hide components you don't want to see, orient your view and choose File -> Save bookmark. Repeat the process for other display states you need. To restore a bookmark choose File -> open and change the file type filter to "Bookmark Files and PLM XML (*.plmxml)" and choose an existing bookmark.

John, I'm curious what new functionality "Display Bookmarks" will add?

It will ONLY capture the 'display' settings while ignoring any changes in the Assembly context. Actually, it's being implemented as an option when saving a 'Bookmark'. You'll now have the option to capture either the Assembly Context, the Display Settings or both. We've also added the ability to create and open 'Bookmarks' to a Resource Bar tab so as to make it easier to find, preview and access them.
