I have a need to display an assembly file name in first column in its BOM. I would like every cell in the first column shows assembly file name. Is this possible?

By doing this, it will facilitate me copying BOM data from SW drawing document to my database.

Thanks,

Alex

You could do that by adding the assy file name as a Custom Property to each part & propagate it to the BOM.

Hi, CorBlmeyLimey:

Thanks for quick reply.

But a part may be used in multiple assemblies, so I can not place assembly information into its components' properties.

I posted my question to see if any forum members ever put assembly info into its BOM, or if they have a more efficient way to copy BOM from SW drawing documents into database.

I've never seen or heard of that being done. Are you trying to create a "where used" function?

Hi, CorBlimeyLimey:

I am using custom-built PDM software. I need to export BOMs to my database. Currently, it seems there is no easy way to do that in SW. I need to create a temporally BOM with first column being the subject assembly part or file number (every cell in the first column shows the assembly file number). Anyone who use ACCESS or SQL database probably needs to do this. I am just wondering if our fellow forum members have any better ways. Exporting BOMs from SW documents into files and re-import the files into database is very cumbersome. How do you guys send BOM data from SW to databases?

I think I can modify the AssemblyBOM macro to suit my needs. I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

Alex
