Is there a way in a drawing to dimension to a hidden line without having to create a section view. I am trying to show the depth of a pocket in a standard view showing hidden lines, but it will not let me smart dim to a hidden line.

You will probably be informed that it is not standard practice to do that, but;

Tools > Options > System Options > Display/Selection-->Selection of hidden edges-->Allow selection of wireframe and HLV modes

Jeff, that option is for retrieving entities which have been hidden.

Help files said:
Select hidden entities. When selected, you can select hidden (removed) tangent edges and edges that you have hidden manually when you pass the pointer over hidden edges.

[cheers]

Thanks!! That did the trick.

Actually, there is a type of view you can use for this as still be legal with the standards.

Select your view first. Then goto pulldown Insert>Drawing View>Break-out section. Draw in an enclosed spline around the area you wish to break-out, and OK.
