hi all
suppose i am having 20 vertical or Horizontal lines and there is dimensions measuring distance between this lines
when i stretch this lines (in there direction) the dimensions is also moved with me
i am sure that i did not select any of the dimensions

what can i do?

When the system variable dimassoc is set to 1 and/or 2 (depending on your autocad version), the individual portions of the dimension objects (lines, arrows, text, etc) are grouped together as one and are "connected" with the objects they measure. When you stretch the object, the dimension changes. Generally this is thought of as being good. If you select just a dimension, you can see that the dimension object includes little boxes that connect (or "snap") the dimension to the object it is measuring. Does this answer your question, or have I gone off into the wild blue yonder?

well Thanks IFRs for response but i undertsand this system variable but i will describe my problem again

i have vertical and horizontal lines (axis) between this axis lies the columns, i have measured the distance between each column and the axis (Linear Dimension)
when i stretch either the horizontal or vertical axis each in its direction(vertical stretched up or down)
(horizontal stretched right or left), i find that the dimensions moves with me( value not chnaged because the distance is the same but the dimension moves with the same value i stretched the line) this does not happend with all dimensions!

one more question what the values of system variable dimaassoc represent as i looked in the express tools and i did not find this system variable available there.

Sorry to ask this, but when you stretch the axis line, are you also crossing-window selecting the dimension?

You could try grip editing the axis (single click the axis line to select it, then single click the box at the end, then move your mouse the direction to stretch it and type a value and press enter?

Dimassoc is a system variable, not an express tool. Autocad help says:

Dimension associativity defines the relationship between geometric objects and the dimensions that give their distance and angles. AutoCAD provides three types of associativity between geometric objects and dimensions.

Associative dimensions. Automatically adjust their locations, orientations, and measurement values when the geometric objects associated with them are modified.

Dimensions in a layout may be associated to objects in model space. The DIMASSOC system variable is set to 2.

Nonassociative dimensions. Selected and modified with the geometry they measure. Nonassociative dimensions do not change when the geometric objects they measure are modified. The dimension variable DIMASSOC is set to 1.

Exploded dimensions. Contain a collection of separate objects rather than a single dimension object. The DIMASSOC system variable is set to 0.

Dawn836,
If you don't have DIMASSOC as a system variable, that must mean you are using Release 2000 or earlier, and the equivalent variable is DIMASO, as I recall.

no i am not selecting any party of the dimesnions while i am crossing slection.
when i said i looked for the system variable in the express tools, i meant i searched for it in the tool they made for tabulating the system variables
i found the system variable dimaso because i use Autocad 2004 and i chnaged its values but i still have the same problem

Are you in Model or Paper Space?
Generally objects will not move unless they are selected, including dimensions.

I think the point that you selected when you do stretch is the same as your dimension point. I mean you selected your dimension!!

well this happend in model space and this does not happend to all the dimesniosn on my drawing i turn the layer of dimension off also but the same happend,
i tried to freexe the layer off but the same happend
is it allowed that i sed the file to someone to comment on it or what?

dawn836 sent me his drawing, and I confirm his question. Grip editing or stretching the line moves the dimension text. I duplicated his problem on a new drawing. In a new drawing, draw two lines 1.25 apart and 3 long vertically. Dimension using almost any snap. Then stretch or grip edit the line, being careful to NOT pick the dimension grip and watch the dimension text move almost every time.

I guess I never noticed this before. Per Autocad Help:
"Associative dimensions. Automatically adjust their locations, orientations, and measurement values when the geometric objects associated with them are modified. Dimensions in a layout may be associated to objects in model space. The DIMASSOC system variable is set to 2."

Note it says that the locations and orientations change when the objects change. It's odd I never noticed this before!!

The only way I could get this behavior to stop was to use endpoint snap for the dimension and then make sure I stretched window crossing that end of the line. Then the dimension text stayed where it was originally placed.
