If I have a pair of mating gear with differant addendum offset (one with 50% offset and the other without offset), will I have an higher backlash that if I where using no offset at all?? (suppose I use theorical center distance modifiad for the offset)

thinking about my question, I think I got the answer. The backlash won't change since when you offset the rack, the circular thickness changes at the pitch diameter. Hum, I'm going to check this with the Fairfield program...

Robin,
the backlash will be different.
The center distance change cause the
tooth thickness to change by the tangent
function of the operating pressure angle
and the line of action is a sin function.
if the change is small, you will not see
much difference.
