I have three simple cycle Combustion Turbine sites that use diesel as a backup fuel. Each site can store inexcess of 100,000 barrels of diesel.

Any information or directions to standards and Industry Best Practices regarding diesel fuel maintenance, rotation, and long term storage is appreciated.

Thank You

There were some good articles in "Power Engineering" and POWER magazines about this particulat topic.

Consider the purchase of this paper:

As I recall, your back-up fuel facility should:

- Have the ability to recirculate the fuel periodically and transfer between tanks

- Consider the use of additives to extend the life of your fuel

- Have the ability to take samples for periodic testing

There are well-established ASTM tests that determine the viability of your fuel. Your fuel will not last forever and replacement must be considered into plant costs.

Do a search on this site using all the key buzzwords. This topic has been discussed at great length with lots of good input in the past.
