Diagonal Bracing Connection

I need to frame some diagonal bracing into the weak axis of a wide flange column. There are no special seismic requirements for this bracing.

Once I have sized the gusset and the welds, what do I need to check on the column side of the connection? I assume shear rupture and shear yielding of the column web. The column web is relatively thin and doesn't seam to have enough strength to take the load from the gusset welds. Any ideas/suggestions? Am I looking at the problem correctly?

If the web is not adequate, stiffen it with a doubler plate.

It's often more economical to bump up a column size than to weld web doubler plates.

Or connect the gusset to the flanges as well as the web (oriented perpendicular rather than parallel to the flanges).
