Hello All,

Can any one advise if I have OS&Y Gate Valve (PN16) for Fire Fighting application with Raised Flange, should Flat Face Steel Flange be used with it or only Raised Face Flange.

I have read multiple threads regarding Steel Vs Steel & Steel RF vs CI FF, but this question is about Ductile Iron RF vs FF Steel Flange.

Please advise with related Standard Specification/Reference if available.

If you have a DI RF then mate it with a Steel RF flange.

A DI RF valve is not common, but they clearly exist and if the designer has allowed for a RF flange then the material is capable of withstanding it.

I would still be a bit careful especially in cold conditions and avoid flogging the nuts up....

Thank you Sir. You have replied very promptly which i greatly appreciate. If you can throw some light, "If Flat Faced Flanges, Slip-on, Steel, can also be used with RF Flanged end Ductile Iron Valves", it will be great help.

NO. Match the flange faces. RF to RF and FF to FF.

You might get away with a steel FF on stress point of view, but the gasket sealing will be compromised.

Steel RFs are very common - what is the problem here?

My understanding is that DI valve, not like CI, can be made with RF flange ends because of the ductile material property. So, it can be connected with the RF steel flanges on the piping. There is no need to use FF steel flange for connecting the DI valve with RF ends.

Thank you again. The only issue was i have already FF Flanges ready with me & do not want to invest again in RF Flanges. Hence was seeking opinion of all experts in here.
