Dear Welding and piping expert.

it is whom responsibility to determine the type of pipe/piping welding profile " Root depth, Spacing , Bevel angle and shape Single or double grooving , V or J type ?

On what basis these parameters " Type of profile , dimensions along with Welding electrode type [ root , hot , filling and cap ] " are selected ?

is there any engineering software to select or design the welding joint for pipe/piping ?

Regards,

Tarek

What code are you building to?

usually the engineer designing it.

parameters, voltage/amperage/dimensions/root depth, fill and cap can be taken from ASME IX 2013.

do you already have supporting PQR's or what stage are you at with that?

I suggest referring to AWS D10 standards. AWS D10.X standards, there are several recommended practices that recommend the parameters based on base metal and welding process. Go to and do a search for D10. You should get several hits with a synopsis of what each RP addresses, i.e., aluminum pipe, carbon steel pipe, austenitic stainless steel pipe, etc.
