Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and trying to find some answers about usability with ANSYS 14.5. I am trying to run a "simple" line body analysis of a bridge. The structure is imported from AutoCAD by an IGES file (for some reason I cannot directly import a dwg file) and I am having a few problems.

1) When I import the geometry into DesignModeler and select "add material", my understanding is that ANSYS should see the entire structure as one big part with implied fixed connections, but when I run the analysis some of the individual line bodies are connected and others are not. I have to specify a connection at each vertex that is not connected. Does anyone have a clue what may be going on?

2) In DesignModeler, the line bodies in the tree outline appear to be in a completely random order. With 272 bodies it takes an extremely long time to assign cross-section properties to each body. Is there a way to select the line bodies in the graphics window and set the cross-section there? That would save tons of time! The only option when selecting a body in the graphics window is cross-section alignment. I want to set the actual cross-section. I thought of trying a named selection, but that does not allow setting cross-sections either.

3) In Mechanical, is there a quick way to select a node and say all members that connect to it are fixed connections or revolute connections. Or do I have to go through each of the 500+ vertices and specify their connections.

Thanks for any help or advice in advance!
