Good evening.
I have never designed a GBS. Here is my question:
Knowing that working stress design WSD is more widespreaded among steel; is it the same with reinforced concrete elements?
WSD appeared in ACI 318-99 Appendix A as Alternate Design Method.
Then, ACI 357R-84 G Guide for the Design and Construction of Fixed Offshore Concrete Structures (1997) evokes strength reduction factors phi 4.4-Design conditions; while working stress method is just mentioned for Serviceability requirements in 4.4.2
Can someone enlighten me here? And how do elements are design? If we see, shafts look more like "chimneys" meanwhile caissons like "tanks".
Eventually if someone has good text references please share. Most of the publications refer to stability and geotechnical aspects of GBS. I want something to deal exclusively with reinforced concrete design. Thanks in advance.
