Design of a wormgear

I am attempting to design a worm gear cutted into an axle under Mechanical. The teeth profile is done. I want a lead angle of 5 degrees. When I try to make a 3D path/Helical, it doesn't want to select the axle's axis, it says it cannot be selected as it is not perpendicular to sketch plan. Any help?
