Design Journal: File size jump with link

Anyone seen this? Link a DOC file in a drawing's Design journal and get a 30 byte jump in file size. Link a PDF file and get a 1.4 MEG jump in files size. In both cases I used "Save As" and save the file under different names.

What's goin' on? I didn't embed the file, only link it.
