Deselect individual curves from Body Edges selection? 6

Hello all,

Often I do a quick and dirty Edge Blend to all edges of a solid body for rendering/visualization purposes. The way I do it is to use Edge Blend then select Body Edges for the curve rule. This will automatically select all edges of the body and apply the blend to them. But sometimes there is a problem with some of the edges which causes the whole operation to fail and prevent me from creating the Blend feature. Since it's not important to me that all edges have blends, I would like to simply deselect the individual edges where the error occurs. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. Of course another solution would be to individually select every edge in the body, but this is very time consuming if the body contains lots of edges. Any ideas?

Select all body edges.

<Shift-click> on any body edges you do not want to have radii on (the ones causing you trouble).

[green]To the Toolmaker, your nice little cartoon drawing of your glass looks cool, but your solid model sucks. Do you want me to fix it, or are you going to take all week to get it back to me so I can get some work done?[/green]

Yes, this works if you select each edge individually with the "Single Curve" curve rule, but not with the "Body Edges" curve rule.

No CNSZU, it works also with Body Edges. When you select Edge Bledn and set filter to Body Edges, do not click just on one edge. Fence Select the whole body. Nw, you will be able to deselect just one edge from all selected edges.
This procedure actually works for any filter selected. If for example, you select Tangent Edges and again fence select the whole body, you will be able to deselect any edge.

That's interesting, the fence selection a possible solution. However, the problem here is that it's very difficult to select only the edges of the solid you want when there are many solids. There will always be some extraneous edges that get selected adjacent to the solid. A workaround to this problem would be to hide the solid, Invert Shown and Hidden, then perform the fence selection when the solid is the only one visible.

Yes, I agree that it is strange, how this is working and that there will be problem of selecting the right edges, when you have more solids. I hope, that someday it will work like this:
1. select Edge Blend and set the filter to Body Edges
2. click on one edge of the solid body. All edges have blends now
3. Now, change the filter from Body Edges to Single Curve
4. Deselect the edge, that you don't need.
This is how it works in Solid Edge and it would be nice, if NX could do the same. At least to me, this procedure is more logical.

Actually it does work that way, except you don't need to change filter to single edge...
[ol]
[li]select Edge Blend and set the filter to Body Edges[/li]
[li]click on one edge of the solid body. All edges have blends now[/li]
[li]Deselect the edge that you don't need by using Shift + click and hold until the quick pick list shows up. In the list you will have the choice of deselecting "all of intent" or a single edge.[/li][/ol]

<shift-click> deselection is much simpler, and more logical than ^^^this^^^ procedure you espouse.

Do you use a spaceball?

As for speeding up the quick pick list, goto Preferences, Selection... you will find the waiting time for the quick pick list, standard Delay set to 3, reduce it to 1.

Best regards,

@cowski:
Excellent. I really didn't know this, since I never waited for the quick pick here.
@capnhook:
With cowski's additional explanation of how this works, I agree with you. This is much much faster then what has to be done in Solid Edge. Now I really don't want that Solid Edge procedure to show up in NX.

Thanks again.

Thank you cowski, your tip completely solved my problem.

Well, I have a question now about the same thing, but for more complicated model (like the one attached). Maybe I want Edge Blend (R1) on all the edges, except on the yellow faces. Is it possible to create edge blend with body edges option (just click on one edge) and then deselect all edges from the yellow faces? Not by clicking every edge on those faces, but rather just selecting the face.

I used to work more with Solid Edge before, so maybe I still think to much in the way of SE modeling. There, I would use the procedure, that I have described before. First, I would select body edges to place blend on all edges. Then, I would change filter to Face Edges and with shift I would click on those two yellow faces. All the edges from those two faces will be removed from Edge Blend. Now, I would click OK and finish with placing the blend.

Here in NX, with this Quick Pick option, I can deselect individual edges and not all the edges from one faces.
So, is it possible to deselect from body edges all the edges of a particular face?

SvenBom,
I may be wrong, but I don't think NX supports that type of de-selection; but it sounds like a nice option. I'd suggest contacting GTAC and have them open an Enhancement Request (ER). If you post back with the number they assign it, we can contact GTAC and essentially add our "votes" so it gets higher priority in their consideration.

If you want the ultimate control of the time it takes 'QuickPick' to take effect, do what I did years ago; SIMPLY TURN IT OFF COMPLETELY! Yes I said TURN IT OFF!!!!

Go to...

Preferences -> Selection...

...and in the section of the dialog labeled 'QuickPick', toggle OFF the 'QuickPick on Delay' option.

Now when you hover the cursor over an object the three little dots (...) will NOT appear. But when you want to use QuickPick simple hold down MB1 for approximately 1/2 second and they will appear and then you simply release MB1 and the OuickPick list will appear.

NO more waiting for QucikPick. NO more having to cancel QuickPick because you 'stopped to think' longer than the timeout period while you cursor was 'hovering' over the WRONG object. NO more wishing the QucikPick timeout period was shorter OR longer than the last time you changed it. It's now under your total control all of the time.

The alternative question I have to ask....is one even able to deselect individual face edges in SE??

My guess is "no".

I concurr with John's tip......it really makes picking things much easier.

Hi,
there is a custumer default
gateway->general-> Tab selection
all of intent

@capnhook and his question about SE and Face de-selection
I have attached a movie that shows, how the modeling goes in SE.
You can see, that SE distinguish between Fillets and Rounds. So, I can easily place a different fillet/round on inside and outside edges.
Anyway, at the end of the movie, you can see, that during the placement of Rounds, I can change the filter to Face and deselect (shift+click) the face, where I don't want any round. In SE it doesn't matter which filter you used for selection, when you deselecting objects. When you want to deselect, SE will use the filter, that is currently active.

@cowski and GTAC
Later today, I will post this on GTAC. Then, I will post IR number here.
