Hello, this is my first project in a Seismic Design Category D. I am checking the code requirements regarding the deformation compatibility (ASCE7-10 - section 12.12.5).
I have 2 interrogations where I would like to have your opinions:
1. Whenever I obtain the maximum story drift, should I analyze my column (not participating in the lateral resisting system) as a single frame considering both ends pinned and the top support subject to a lateral displacement equal to the story drift?
2. is there any requirement for the columns to be considered as acting in the LRFS ? any minimum base shear the columns should take to consider them as resisting the earthquake ?
Thank you in advance
