DCP Test

Hi, i completed a DCP test on a soil sample in situ, and have determined the penetration curve. Then determing the in situ CBR for each layer.

The question is what sort of conclusion could i draw from having CBR ranging from 13, 45 , 18 repectively for each layer going downwards?

Rukia: Please detail what you mean by DCP. If you have searched the other (many) threads on the issue, you will know that there are several types of DCP tests using different equipment and different driving energy. What conclusion do you think?

Agree with BigH...and further, why did you do the test if you didn't have a reasonable expectation of a conclusion to be drawn from it?

At this point you can conclude that you have three equivalent CBR values. Now why do you need the CBR values? Are you designing a pavement? Are you doing a failure investigation of a pavement?

Hi Rukia,

What type of soil did you do the DCP test in - if soil with cohesion then the results should be read carefully. What length DCP did you use and did you visually observe the in-situ soil?

It mean you have three layers of different strength, However the type of materials and moiture content matters a lot during interpritation of the results.
