I have a need for a DC contactor with a rating of 3,500A/ 900VDC or above. I have a spec form in with ABB on a custom version of their R-series bar contactor. I've also just contacted Lenoir Elec about their CBC contactors. Any experience with these, positively or negatively? Know of any competitors in this size range?

These contactors will be used in a "DC-3" environment with shunt DC generators and motors. No VFD's are involved in this old fashioned Ward Leonard type system. The system reverses current so the polarity sensitive Hubbell Type 703 doesn't appear feasible.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Sounds like an application for a generator field contactor. I might have some info at work when I get in - will have a look.

Check out Reuel, Inc. in North Carolina, USA. They have taken over the DC traction substation business of Impulse, NC. There is a large requirement for DC breakers in the railway traction business.

General Electric makes High Speed DC Circuit Breakers that will meet your requirements.

These are referred to as Gerapid breakers.
