Could not find the answer to this in the AWS literature so I am curious to know if you can use your own copy of D1.1 during the exam or do they provide a copy?

I know if you take the seminar they give you a copy but I own an electronic (PDF) version of D1.1-2010 and I printed a copy and have it in a 3 ring binder.

Is this going to a problem?

Also, is a copy of D1.1 the only book you can use during this part of the exam?

During the ICC exam you can have whatever you want with you so I was wondering what AWD allowed.

It has been a long time since I took the exam and taught a review course, but at that time, you had to bring your own copy of the code. Since you printed yours, you'll likely have to have it verified by one of the exam proctors or they might not allow it at all....call the AWS office and get a ruling before you go to the exam.

If you 'own' the electronic copy, the printed version will indicate your name along the left side of each page. That will suffice to show that you have a legal copy...

Yes, on the edge, how ingenious of them. Since I bought the books I'm not really feeling the need to pump out any "free" copies for anyone, and I can appreciate AWS's need to protect their copyrights.

The electronic versions do have some negatives:
1) can not cut/paste for reports
2) won't allow a double-sided print. Had to print the entire thing single sided and then run it back through for 1 side to 2 side copy. You loose a with each generation.

As of January 1st, you have to use the 2010 edition of D1.1 and you have to provide your own "legal" copy.

Best regards - Al

boffintech:

If you need to cut/paste for a report, you can do a print screen and:

1. Paste screenshot directly into WORD/EXCEL

2. Copy the screenshot into MS PAINT,select the area you need, highlight/copy/cut then and place into your report.

Eddycurrentguy - very clever / thanks.

In answer to your other question--yes, the code book for whichever open book exam you're taking is the only book you bring. They provide the Part B booklet and the inspection tools (even if you took the seminar where they give you tools). You get to keep the little flashlight as a souvenir. (Probably because they noticed that some people hold the flashlights in their mouths.)
