Custom Hole Wizard Database and Hole Callout Format

I just added a couple of custom databases to my Hole Wizard. I would like to modify the verbage that Hole Callout creates when it is used to dimension holes created from these custom databases. I figure that this will involve editing calloutformat.txt and/or calloutformat_2.txt, but I really don't know where to begin. Is there a document or thread out there that covers this?

Thanks in advance,
Al

There is some good information in previous threads. In particular Hole Callouts thread559-86931

A search using hole callout format will yield others.

Ok, I've read the thread and messed about in calloutformat.txt but I don't seem to be on the right track. I don't wish to edit the callouts for any existing HW holes, I want to define callouts for new HW holes which I just defined in several new Data Standards. I don't see how to make the connection between the specific HW hole and which line in calloutformat.txt generates the actual callout.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I do not believe this is possible. The calloutformat.txt file only works for existing "SolidWorks" hole wizard holes.

Have you created different sizes of HW holes, or completely new types of holes?

Currently I have created two new series of holes for dowel pins, one for press fits and one for loose fits. I created the databases in such a way as to have both the nominal fractional size, actual decimal size, and a verbal description appear in the feature tree. I would like to have the hole callout tool include somthing to the effect of "this is a press fit (or loose fit) hole for a ... dowel pin."

A third database that I would like to create is for "G Series British Straight Pipe Thread", these holes would also require custom hole callouts. This is still a low priority because I have not yet been able to create a new "threaded" hole database. I can't seem to figure out the database format for threaded holes and I keep getting errors. This is probably a question for another thread.

To use the calloutformat.txt file with you new standards, you have to create that standard in the file. If you open the text file you will see the standard name as the first line after a row of asterisks. For example [ANSI INCH]. I suggest you copy the complete standard you used as a template to make your new one. Remember to replace the standard name with yours (ex [ANSI INCH] becomes [MY STANDARD]).

For creating the G series tap you will probably want to modify the YOUR STANDARD_DATA_HW_PipeTapDrills data sheet. That is if you made your standard from the existing ISO standard. I have only created standards using SolidWorks. Modifying was done using Microsoft Access. Be warned that SolidWorks does not support modifying the database file in this way. You are on your own with any problems.

Good luck.

Regg
