Creating gear train stick-figure schematics.

Hello Eng Tips,

I am new to gear train design and have been asked to create a diagram like those referenced previous thread and shown in link:

I have tried searching for methods/books and general information about creating stick figure schematics but do not find much.

Can anyone recommend more information about this technique, such as books, how-to, history etc. ?
