Creating a linked copy of a body for use in other part for further operations in NX 7.5 2

Hi all

I am new to UG NX and currently I need to use NX 7.5 for one of our customers.
I need to create a linked copy of a body from a part for use in another part. No assemblies.
We have a casting part created and we need to have a linked (associative) copy of this part in a machining part so that further machining cuts can be done on it. Both the casting and machining are two different parts.
Any suggestions??

For that sort of work, I would recommend that you use a Promotion. You would have to create the original 'as-cast' part, then open another empty part and add the 'as-cast' part as a Component creating a single level Assembly. Now while in the Assembly file go to...

Insert -> Associative Copy -> Promote Body...

...and select the Solid body and hit OK. Now you add whatever additional feature that you need to represent the 'as-machined' part file. Note that any changes made to the original 'as-cast' model will update your 'as-machined' model. You can work with either model when ever you wish.

Now some people might suggest that you use WAVE linked models and while that can be done as well, for this sort of workflow where every things moves from one one manifestation to the next in a serial fashion, which is what the real-world workflow would be, Promotions are actually a better way to go than WAVE.
