I got a question from the field regarding the possible corrosion due to the Warm Lime Softener (WLS) operation upset. They said because of the over injection of lime slurry into WLS and the water sample taken from the tank shows higher lime concentration and pH value than the acceptance level. Then they took the measures to lower the pH back to normal which lasted about 24 hours. The question is if there is any corrosion concern about this over injection of lime slurry. My understanding this can only cause the scaling in the equipment and pipes. Do we need to concern about the corrosion due the corrosion under scaling? scaling is usually good for corrosion but bad to process.

Lime will not corrode steel and will, if anything, protect it.
