Could you some one help me out how to determine a corrosion allowance for slurry piping/pipeline in oil sands mining process?
Generally speaking, I think that there are variables to do that, that is, size of solid, velocity, flow rate(min.& max.)and expected life time of pipe.
As well, I know that bend and tee should be overlayed inside to minimize erosion due to flowing velocity.
Then, for straight-run piping is it not required to coat inside but selecting thicker wall thickness?

Thank you.

BHRA have a number of conference papaers on the wear rates of slurries.

Wear is proportional to the velocity to the power 2.5 to 4.5. Without testing your slurry it is difficult to assess the problem.

There are standard test methods to determine the abrasiveness of slurries. he Miller test gives on number that can be used comaratively but predictions can be inaccurate as pH and dissolved oxygen play a part.

GIW have a test rig where the characteristics of the slurry can be tested. The problem is you may not have a sample. The tersting becomes complicated if you dont have the carrier fluid to hand that you intend using.

I would think that for pumping the slurry you are talking about you will not have to worry about any factor for corosion. The sand will give you a nice smooth finish to all the wetted surfaces. However, the wear factor is another problem as pointed out by "stanier" .
