Nitrogen Stainless Steel Piping - Chemical plant design & operations

Our client needs a 3" nitrogen transferring piping system with 70,000 scfh flow rate under 100 psig pressure. The client engineer indicated they would like to use stainless steel piping. I just wonder what is the reason behind that? Thanks advance.

Here is a general process piping spec that includes nitrogen.

If flows are small, you can choose between copper or SS316 tubing. If flow requires piping, SS316 would be better to avoid external corrosion over the long term, especially in damp ambient conditions, or when piping runs through difficult to access areas and/ or when it runs along with many other pipes and tubing, making painting almost impossible in the future. In some Operating companies , such services are run in SS316 pipe or tubing for all line sizes <= DN50.
