I have found many posts on how to do it (save reg. settings) but I didn't find any instructions when a user is required to have admin. priviledges to save it. I constantly have to get the MIS dudes to log on as administrator for me to do so. After getting brow beat a million times there must be a better way to accomplish this task. I'm not looking for a way to hack into my computer but if anyone knows a solution please share.

Why are you constantly having to copy the settings? You would normally only do this if you are changing computers or setting up other computers to have the same settings.

You could have MIS set up a scheduled task to copy the settings daily, weekly, etc.

Or perhaps have them assign you "admin" or "power user" rights.

Constantly was an exaggeration...same goes for getting brow beat a MILLION times. Anyhow, I find new tool icons and macros to add to my tool bar periodically. I like to keep my reg settings as current as possible for JIC reasons. I also use my settings on other pc's when trouble shooting or sharing. However, I've never known SW to ask for admin privileges (until SW2006) to save reg settings. I find bothering MIS for the task a nuisance...they most likley feel the same. Thanks for the reply...much appreciated.

Seemingly related; I have found over the past year and a half that as I import STEP Files as well as other common transport formats, that SW temporarily alters Option Settings to allow the best import of these files. Sw then is sometimes "sloppy" about returning the Options settings to their respective original status. My VAR has acknowledged this as a known issue with SW (SW 2006, not sure about 2007 yet).

Before learnign of this, I was eroneously convinced that either my users were in playing around with settings, or I was going crazy...fortunately, neither were true. [tongue]

Enjoy!

Have them give you Reg rights and that will go away... You have to have some rights to get your Reg settings, because that is where it is all stored at.

Actually you should get them exactly like you want them. Then copy out your settings and you should not have change it anymore. but if you don't have reg rights then every time you make a change it won't save it, because you don't have right to the reg setting and when you come back to SW later and start it up your setting are changed. Its your IT problem not yours and there is no way around this. they have to give you rights to at least the registry.

Thanks Scott...I will continue to 'push' the issue for I do agree. My MIS guys just need to understand my needs. Hey...their computer geeks...not SolidWorks nerds ;~)

FYI...I have been reading your responses (and web page) for a long time...always top notch SW advice! You da' man!

Compliments from a potential SW guru waiting to stretch his wings.

Thanks Edson!

I am working on updating my site, but I can never spend enough time on it to finish it up. As soon as I get some updates I will inform everyone.

Thanks again!
