convert entities SW08 sp5.0

After using theConvert Entities command, the new sketch appear as derived in the feature tree and sketch entities cannot be selected to create a feature. What step am I missing that will make the new sketch entities able to be selected? Or how do I convert the (apparent) derived sketch to a "normal" sketch?
