Is there a way to convert Moped engine CC rating into Horsepower?

No. But you might find the hp rating in a shop manual. Mopeds are becoming more popular to restore around her it seems. The small scooters and motorbikes are showing up at all the shows these days. A Moped went by my shop a few days ago, first one I have seen since I was kid. I rode my first one in 1954 and even then it seemed under powered.

Is an American moped the same as European one? In Europe a moped is limted to 50 cc and used to have to have pedals - practically this lead to a maximum of 1.4 hp or so, ie 70 hp/litre for a two stroke, rather less for a four stroke.

Greg, the one I rode was a "ServiCycle" and it had pedals and was belt driven. I was 14 years old and had been on larger motorcycles at the time and I thought it too slow for me, besides, my dad said "No, it's just too dangerous".
