Conversion tool

We have a new corporate logo and I need to redefine our drawing formats. Corporate provided PDF, BMP, PNG, GIG and a few other format types of the new logo. However, the softare I use will only allow a CGM to be imported into a user defined symbol.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good free conversion tool?

If anyone there uses Adobe Illustrator, they should be able to open one of the vector format files and convert it to CGM. The PDF file may contain vector information or it may simply be a container that holds a raster file. If you have a WMF, EMF, or AI file those would be better.

A quick search turned up UniConvertor; I've not used it, but looks like it may work for your need (if you have a vector file to start with).

If all you have are raster format files (BMP, PNG, JPG, etc), your best bet is to import one of those into your CAD program and use it as a guide to create curves. There exist programs that attempt to convert raster files to vector, but the results usually leave much to be desired.

for use with NX), but it doesn't export CGM.
You still need to use UniConverter for that.

I "reverse engineered" a logo a couple of weeks ago, for NX7.5
( i drew a sketch on top of a raster image, which was faster than finding/ installing/ learning a new software)
But since i have NX9 installed and the raster image is superior in NX9 compared to NX7.5 i used NX9.
the plan was to use CGM to export the curves to NX7.5 but i found that splines got converted into tons of lines, so i used DWG instead which gave me a 1:1 export/ import.

The trick is to
1) find a logo image with very high resolution,
2) make the imported image very large in NX, the freehand clicking errors ( Cursor position) will then be undetectable when the logo have been scaled into correct size.
This "trick" is not new to us who have been around for a couple of years, but might be helpful for others.
