Hello,

My query is specific to identifying the type of fire alarm system required according to prevalent codes and standards for National Building Code of Canada, Group B, Division 2, Care and Treatment facilities such as rehabilitation facilities.

Does conventional fire alarm system or addressable fire alarm system meets the relevant code and also which type of system is more prevalent. Also what would be an approximate price difference between a conventional and addressable fire alarm system?

Thank you.

Unfortunately, there's nothing I can say regarding the National Building Code of Canada's requirements for fire alarm systems. Regarding the prevalence of conventional versus addressable systems, however, it's been my experience in the United States that addressable systems are *far* more common. Even for very small and/or budget-oriented projects, addressable systems appear to be installed most of the time.

Addressables most often include automated monitoring of smoke detector performance. Eliminates quarterly testing requirements.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave
