I am heading up an effort to write a standards package for my company to incorporate best practice techniques related to electrical / programming design for industrial equipment. I'm planning to include as much as possible starting with fusing and panel layout and going all the way through HMI and PLC application design. I'm looking for as much reference material on this subject as I can find. Can anyone point me to some solid references for standards and/or best practice documents that may be of help?

Thanks.

UL is a good place to start, especially if you are in the US.
It will not address issues about programming etc., but it does speak volumes about safe construction methods and practices.

Thanks jraef, I do plan to incorporate the relevant sections of nfpa79, ul508, etc but am looking more for "good practice" guidance that isn't necessarily controlled by the official standards. Any thoughts on that?

If you are an OEM (as I am) I would think some of your end users could provide you with their workmanship standards and/or expectations as a start? We are provided with these occasionally.
