Hello,

Has anyone ever connected two plates (in a T shape), one that is powder coated and one that is galvanized? If so, how and were there any durability impacts?

Additionally, I've always been told not to powder coat after galvanizing because it doesn't work. Has any one done this successfully?

EngEquilibrium,

I am sure you will receive very good answers to your questions at this site, but be sure you contact your local/regional Hot Dip Galvanizing Suppliers and Powder Coating Suppliers and ask them the same questions.

Please post any responses that illuminate any problems with either coatings.

Jim

I have seen connections of (powder?) coated endplates on HDG beams that were years old. Apart from some scratches in the paint, were rust got through, the connection itself was in very good condition. Ouside, but under a roof so no direct rain. I see no basic difference between what you are asking, and the use of HDG fasteners on painted plates.
Hasn't the second part of your question been answered in this thread ?
