Very silly question but I haven’t done a concrete pull out check for a set of anchor bolts (in a pier) in a long time. What ACI section should I be using?

Appendix D, and welcome to the nightmare. I'd skip it and develop your anchor rods via a splice or some other means of anchorage unless you have very low uplift.

I through-bolt whenever I can to avoid Appendix D entirely.

Appendix D and then a sanity check!!
However, HILTI and some other anchor bolt companies have free downloadable programs that will jump eagerly thru all the hoops req'd.
The computer never complains.

Wow it's not that bad.

ACI-318-05/08 App. D is the section you are looking for, 08 has better pictures and explanations.

@a2mfk, when you say develop the AB via a splice, is there a special type of anchor rod I would need for that? I am having a difficult time picturing this.

He is referring to ACI 318-08 Section D.4.2.1, which allows you to design reinforcement to restrain concrete breakout, Section D.5.2.9 describes the design of the reinforcement along with how far the reinforcement can be from the anchor bolts.

Here are two article for some guidance
