What does everyone think about this construction joint for future additions?

This would be for a Wastewater Treatment Plant built in phases. Sometimes, it can be years in-between the phases, so the joint will sit for quite some time before being used.

Thank you in advance for the critique!

We have the identical detail (you must work for a competitor), except for the key.
[ul]
[li]Key is worthless and possibly harmful.[/li]
[li]Ditto for the bond breaker, except it probably does no harm.[/li]
[li]I'd ask for the 1500 psi concrete, but the contractor might "forget" and put in 4000 psi (or whatever). So expect Jack to be doing some "hammerin".[/li]
[li]It's very hard to make a contractor see any benefit to help out the next guy, so this detail is normally built like the dog's dinner.[/li]

Jed-

I might work for a competitor. I work for a large regional, but small national firm in the Texas market. :)

I generated the above detail from 3 details I found on old plans.

I've done a bunch of reading on shear friction and am with you on the key being useless.....BUT every time I issue plans without it; I get an RFI.

I usually use a detail similar to attached, and you can use a waterstop in lieu of the rebar; I've done it often. I often use bentonite rod in lieu of PVC waterstops... my preferred way to do it
