The LRFD Specifications for Steel Hollow Structural Sections include provisions for determining the strength of the section when there is a concentrated force distributed longitudinally at the center of the HSS face (section 8.2). There is no distinction made for whether this load is assumed to be applied near the interior of the section or whether it is applicable to loads applied at the ends. Does anyone know if these provisions are applicable to situations where the load is applied near the ends?
