I am trying to use Compress nozzle FEA for nozzle analysis. The nozzle loads are given as due to weight, thermal, and seismic.
In compress nozzle FEA, there are input conditions for weight, operating, occasional and thermal.
My understanding is that nozzle loads due to weight will be input for the weight condition in Compress. Nozzle loads due to weigh and thermal will be the iput for the operating condition. Nozzle load due to thermal can also be used for the thermal only condition. But I am not quite clear about the occasional load input.
In Compress nozzle FEA manual, the seismic load is treated as occasional load and it also says the occasional load shall not include any portion of the weight or operating load cases since the loads will be combined automatically as required. However from the result file I can see that only forces due to weight, pressure and seismic are combined in the occasional load case. I wonder why the operating loads (including thermal) are not combined with seismic load instead of the load due to weight since I think the loads due to weight, thermal and seismic can occur simultaneously.
Could somebody help me understand and let me know if my load inputs for the different conditions correct?
Thank you,
Arbor
