Column k values in reinforced concrete frames

How should column k value be calculated for lower storey column of a moment resisting frame. Since it will have no beams at its lower end.
Another problem is how one decides if the frame is braced or side sway.

I assume you are using the alignment chart method. The AISC commentary says that G may be taken as 10 for a typical "pinned" connection to the footing and 1 for a fixed connection.

Moment frames are always considered sway frames. Only assumed sidesway is inhibited with braced frames or shear walls.
