i need to add a steel beam supported on steel pipes to support the roof of a house. the steel pipe has to go through two floors all the way to the basement for 28 feet. how can i brace this pipe at each floor?

Simply support it by tying into the floor/ceiling diaphragm at each level.

so how do you do that?

In this case, maybe simple straps from the framing to the bolts in the intermediate flange joints that you need in order to get the pipe into the holes?

A horizontal plate nailed to the floor and bolted/welded to the column.
