Does anyone have the requirements for cold weather while placing CMU? I don't have my manual on me and won't be around it for another week or so. Is the temperature supposed to be an "Average" throughout the entire day? Or is it more specific to anything under 40 you must insulate?

Thank you!

The requirements are based on the weather (temperature and moisture) for protection and the temperatures of the materials and mixtures.

Be aware that the materials are not affected the "weatherman" indicated air temperatures since planning and preparation can allow good construction in almost any conditions.

The NCMA (ncma.org) TEK notes and the masonry contractors association have standards that have been developed through the years.

Cold weather procedures need to be implemented when ambient temperature is below 40 F. The requirements prior to placement, during construction, and protection after the placement are given for temperature ranges 40 F - 32 F, 32 F - 25 F, and so on and so forth and are quite elaborate to be produced here.
There is an article on Cold Weather Masonry at It is based on ACI 530.1 - 02.
May be that would help.
