check valve in centrifugal compressor 1

does any one know the reason of installing a check valve upstream the 2nd (and the last ) stage of centrifugal compressor - and after the interstage KO drum between the 1st and the 2nd stage -

If there is anti-surge loop per each stage, guess you need a check valve downstream the tie-in point at discharge of the stage.
In case of trip, you also need to prevent back flow problem, but the closer it is to compressor discharge the better.

if you post a process flow diagram it is more easy to try and provide some answer...

Enable segregation between 1stage and 2nd stage settleout pressures.
