Hi everyone,

It seems like such a simple idea to me - however I require some guidance to determine the Characteristic values for a series of numbers.

I am currently testing a new product to be released and I am currently testing the screw pull-out tensile strength through thin sheet steel.

I have 10 results from testing and just need to obtain the characteristic value to use for the design.

My understanding is that out of 100 test specimens, 95% must pass the minimum limit.

How can I obtain this?

My apologies that this is not a specific structural engineering query.

Thanks

Provided your strength variations follow a Normal distribution you can estimate the 95% limit as the mean plus 1.64 standard deviations.

Yes...from the test results you need to do a statistic evaluation

EuroCode EN1990 Appendix D might give you the guideline

best regards
Klaus
