Maybe it's one of the settings in my computer but for some reason I cannot change the colors of parts within an assembly. If i really try, I can change face colors, but that's not what I'm looking to do. I can also assign materials and it changes the colors but I'm not trying to do that either.

On a side note, SolidWorks forum is the #1 hot forum in Eng-Tips. Minus well call it SW-Tips.

Hi, uGlay:

Select the part in FM tree. Right click it and choose "Appearance" and then "Color...". There you have it.

Do you have RealView enabled? Have you tried it with RV turned off?

"On a side note, SolidWorks forum is the #1 hot forum in Eng-Tips." Is that good or bad?!?

Dan

It's good of course! Let me see what the RV settings are.

ctopher: I used to click on the part and then I would click on the colors buttons in the standard toolbar. But the color button is always grayed out now for some reason. Don't know if it is an 08 thing or I did something wrong to my computer.

Hi, uGlay:

My previous comment was not clear. You should select the part in FM (Feature manager) tree in your assembly. Right click it and choose "Appearance" and then "Color...". There you have it.

If you select a face, you will change color of that face. If you select the part, you will change color of all faces of the part.

Alex

grayclamps: the appearance button is a gold sphere-shaped thing on my computer. SW irking me again.

Hi, uGlay:

Can't you select the part in FM (Feature manager) tree in your assembly. Right click it and choose "Appearance" and then "Color..."?

Alex

You can only access the Colour and Texture icons if Real View is disabled. With Real View enabled, only the globe icon is available.

[cheers]

"Real View" option has nothing to do with appearance color of a part in an assembly.

You can access appearance color of a part in an assembly any time you want.

Alex

You enable or disenble RV by pushing the golden globe icon.

Are you aware that there are two sets of colors for any parts? Native color of faces of a part and appearance color of the part in an assembly. They are different.

Alex

Hi, Dan:

I am kind of behind. I still use SW2007. I think uGlay is talking about colors of parts in assemblies not colors of the parts themselves.

Alex

I just checked and RealView has been off the entire time.

RV has become more ingrained in '08. There are many options that have changed since '07. In '08 RV Appearances have gobbles up the old PhotoWorks materials and access to the options that you are familiar with are not available with RV enabled. Check out the What's New document on SW's website.
