Changing part colors in an assembly

Maybe it's one of the settings in my computer but for some reason I cannot change the colors of parts within an assembly. If i really try, I can change face colors, but that's not what I'm looking to do. I can also assign materials and it changes the colors but I'm not trying to do that either.

On a side note, SolidWorks forum is the #1 hot forum in Eng-Tips. Minus well call it SW-Tips.

sheesh no wonder I was going nuts reading the replies.

I just added my computer information to my signature, hopefully it will prevent this from happening again.

This is kinda in the vein (vain) of rgrayclamps statement, when you change the color of a part (subassembly) in the context of a higher level assembly, it doesn't actually update the part's color, it simply assigns a new color to the part in the context of the assembly. Kinda like shooting a coat of paint on the part when it gets to the assembly level. I tend to prefer to NEVER change the color in the context of an assembly, I ALWAYS go back to the part level to change a color. But then, I don't really do any stuff that needs to look pretty.
