Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with Excel 2007 that has been bothering me for sometime. I've spent sometime looking online for a solution but haven't had any luck.

My problem is when I highlight cells in Excel the colour that the cells are highlighted in is a very light grey and it's hard to differentiate which cells I've highlighted and which ones I haven't.

This seems to be a common complaint with the 2007 version of Excel but I've yet to see anyone come up with a solution.

Has anyone here had any luck with correcting this issue?

You can highlight in a range of colors or a range of intensities in a given color.

Do you mean 'selecting' cells rather than 'highlighting' them? as there is no highlight text feature in excel - you can fill cells, but not highlight the text.

Anyway. If the light grey/blue selecting colour is not defined enough against the background, you don't seem to be able to change it within Excel. The colour of the selected cells changes depending on the background colour of the filled cells. So within excel, you might find it better to change your background colour to something that agrees better with your eyes. You can fill all the cells (and lose the gridlines).

The other option is to change the windows colour scheme for all applications. There are some super high contrast selections under personalization in the control panel menu, but Win7 seems to lack the individual control that WinXP had, or I didn't find it. It's a starting point anyway.

Thanks guys,

I meant "selecting" cells I guess. Not fill or anything like that.

If anyone has come up a fix for this problem, I'm listening.

Cheers

There's a few ways of highlighting cells in Excel 07.

The easiest is using the highlight icon on the Home scroll window. The icon looks like a paint bucket being spilt. If you click the arrow it will give you a lot of choices for highlighting.

Another way is by selecting the cells and right clicking the mouse. Select Format Cells, Fill Tab, and choose a background color.

So, you have a hard time seeing which cell(s) is selected? Not highlighted.

Good luck,

I guess I'm just use to the selection colour to track what I'm selecting...

But yes, there is a 'fat black box' around the selection.

Yes... Selected. Not highlighted.

I'm looking to change the selection colour.

If at all possible, I physically change the monitor viewing angle. This is not ideal, but in a pinch it has helped.

Adjusting the contrast of my monitor did the trick for me.
