Hi Corby,

do you have the STEP Licence of CATIA?

Regards,

Roland

Darn, I know what your gonna say now, I need one, are they cheap?

if you open a model (v4) you cannot save the file. You can save only V5 file (as step).

You have to migrate the file to V5 in order to save it...

Not true at all.

The way to save .model directly as STEP, is to insert the .model into a .CATProduct as "existing component". It's not exactly a simple "save as", but it's much less complicated than a migration. I tend to avoid migrating files wherever possible.

A CATProduct is a V5 file (Do!) that's why you can save it.

Again, if you open a V4 file in V5 you can not save it.

If you insert a V4 model in a V5 CATProduct this is another story as you do not have access to all the information inside the V4 file.

Your "file / save" menu is blanked out because you open the V4 file (directly).

....unless I am wrong again...

If you only want to generate a STEP file you should look for Adobe Acrobat 3D.

With that you can create STEPs. Not from eakt data but from tesselated data with a very fine tesselation.

That program is much cheaper than CATIAs STEP.

You told him that he had to MIGRATE to Catia. Inserting into a CATProduct is NOT migrating. (that would be the function of the MIGRATION utility)

This is certainly not just a matter of semantics....
