We had a contractor weld some carbon steel pipe next to some SS parts which spattered onto the SS. Also they used carbon steel wire wheels and dirty grinding wheels to finish some of the welds on the SS pipe. See pictures. Can we clean this up with SS wire wheels or clean grinding wheels meant for SS and will it stay clean? What is the best way to fix this?

Also, if left the way it is would it keep getting worse?

You need to pickle the affected areas. The areas are small, so pickling paste is probably an option.

there are a lot of areas like shown in the pictures... that was just a small sample unfortunately. I will look into the pickling paste... thank you

If you leave it you are almost assured of having pitting corrosion initiate in these locations.
There is a product called RedOne, a pickling paste that works well.
If the sections can be removed (spool pieces) that might be easier.

Avesta has a number of pickle pastes suitable for cleaning the mess made by your Contractor. While phosphoric & citric acid based cleaners would remove much of the contamination, they would not remove all.

Don't let someone just clean it up with new flap wheels or grinding, and then give it a quick passivation.
It will come back and cause problems.
You will need to at least partially disassemble the system in order to do a through job.
