Hello all respected engineers,

I am designing a canopy for the multistory building with a height over 60. ASCE7-16 directs the canopies for buildings with h<=60, but silent about h>60.

I considered this as special consideration as per the plan checker's suggestion and calculated wind forces as per Figure 30.9-1 (Components and cladding wind load for overhang)

As per this section, I came up with overhang pressure of 47psf (zone 3, corner condition) plus Ps = Pw = C/C wind pressure of 16psf. So total wind acting on canopy is 47*1.15 + 16 = 70psf. (1.15 multiplier used as per Section 30.6.1.3).

This force results in compression in tension rods (1" dia and 4ft in length) attaching canopies to the building. Can we design those rods for compression or need to use 2"-3" dia pipes, or fix connection of canopy with the building?

Canopies are attached to the wood and CFS studs.

I would like to get suggestions of you guys, any reference calculations would be helpful.

Thanks

I am reading that you need reference calculations for buckling of a 1"Ø rod?
If so, i don't have much confidence in the rest of your design.
