I am using NX7.53 and have a part that was modeled to show a weld prep (chamfer).
For whatever reason my company refers not to show weld preps in an assembly being
used to create a drawing and just show the weld symbol at drawing level. Now
after promoting the body of the part at assembly level is ther a way to remove the
weld prep (chamfer)?

synchronous commands? can you explain a little more in detail for me?

If you have never heard of synchronous before, I'd suggest you start here
A forum post simply isn't enough to cover an overview of everything synchronous can do.
You may also want to search on youtube for some video demonstrations of what it can do.

Go to Insert -> Synchronous modeling, click a command that looks interesting and press F1 to bring up the help file for more information.

Post back with any specific questions that the help file doesn't address.

Or use a family table. One instance is the chamfered pasrt, the other has the chamfer suppressed for your assembly.
