This new forum layout is horrible; hard to navigate; hard to read; wastes a TON of space on the screen; having to click thru multiple pages is bad; the "new" posts is not correct and way out of date.; its probably going to be even more awful when I login in on my iPad. Not having the list of favorite forums on the left is a HUGE PROBLEM; eliminates fast navigating. Please kill this and go back to the old forum. You are going to lose users.

The color scheme contract could stand some adjustment, some - not all items have such low contrast that it is difficult to read.

Features that at first seemed to be missing are starting to work, look under the three vertical dots.

There are some features that will be improved when some instructions appear.

its probably going to be even more awful when I login in on my iPad.
Small form devices often need a different display model. If this platform supports display (ipad) detection, and alternate display modes for devices that need that, please enable that.

Hopefully they bring back the missing features. So far, this is way to much work move between threads.

Agree with previous comments. The changes are difficult to use and the forum will suffer.

Pity any new users. They will soon give up and leave.
I just looked in to see what's new, found this thread in the confusion and gave up.
Why did Eng-Tips fix(Imagine that I just used strike through on "fix") break something that wasn't broke???

I turned off notifications but my email is still flooded with every new post

Why change something that's worked really well for many years?
There are no benefits.

My first experience from the "new" forum was a lot of e-mails. Perhaps it is not the best default setting to activate everything. There was (and perhaps still is) a recommendation to not use e-mail any address in a post. The purpose is to avoid spam, perhaps someting to keep in mind regarding default settings ;). I have changed the settings but still get unwanted mail so I will further reduce it. If that doesen't worg I will classify "Eng-tips" as spam until someting happens.

The second experience came when I opened the site and first saw the new layout, and I was not impressed. What had happened to my favorites on the left side where I very easy could see what had happended since my last visit. It was gone and replaced by "everything", instead of being able to select according to my interrests I now get a lot that doesn't interrest me.

I would say that the title of this thread is good advice, but I also realize that you won't go back to the old forum. But I would say, go back to the old forum and look at the functions that were popular. For example the list on the left, get that back for this new interface, ASAP.

I have occasionally used an iPhone for eng-tips, it was by now means perfect but it worked when I was on a bus or something situations. I will not test this on an iPhone.

I agree with the objections; if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Are you f kidding me. It don't fly. If I wanted Redit, I'd be at Redit.
How do I delete my membership?
In fact I may not return to find out how.
If I ghost you, you know why.

I agree. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. This is tougher to navigate and I can't find Pat's Pub!

It is 'Broken' now! Hard to figure out where the faded posts stop, and the reply field begins! What an eye strain!

Reminds me of working with the Federal Government where Baffle them with BS is goal vs actual useful content of information!

I noticed my thread showing all the Bots watching got Nuked ASAP! Why? I provided screen shots of the activity from this site? Perhaps that is something that will now be hidden from user visibility?

The notification settings are terrible. Endless clicks. I thought I clicked off all the important ones, and this am 5 more notifications. If I get more than one or two a day, bye bye. We come here to chat with others, it is not a business. I get you need to pay the bills, but...

It will be interesting to see how the change unfolds. I have seen many times where admin makes changes, and slowly after all the key members disappear and the site dies a horrible death. I hope Admin listens.

I think it is a more modern look, but agree some of the fonts are too light for our demographic that may not be in their 20's, 30's...

Still getting email notifications for random stuff I don't care about after disabling ALL notification settings; needs to be fixed ASAP.

I agree I don't like the new interface; wastes a lot of screen space; the old interface was significantly easier to read the flow of the discussion without so much scrolling, and you could easily see look up to previous messages to see what people are talking about without significant scrolling up and down.
Removing the avatar and all (or most of) the stats from the left side of the thread would help condense the layout more like the old one. Just need the username & can click on that to see their stats.

Change should be achieved via incremental improvement. Starting again with a totally new system is how you introduce problems.
I also liked how simple/budget the old layout looked, it was nicely refreshing in the era of all UIs getting bloated and overly 'pretty'.

I found the old forum antiquated in design. But the current change is a big backward step in usability.

The biggest issue is that this forum is a hub of EXCELLENCE engineer contributors. It doesn't take much to alienate an existing user base and they give up posting. If you lose that core group of excellence then what is the value of this forum?

But it's so social...

Yeah.. I'm not a fan of being spammed with unwanted emails and no longer seeing a quick snap shot of the forums I'm interested in on the home page.
