I'm aware that there is a relationship between the time-record length, frequency span, frequency resolution, and number of lines as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. I did a test using dual channels with the following settings:
Frequency Span = 3.2kHz
Number of Lines = 1600 lines

Time-Record Length is found to be about 0.5s, whilst the frequency resolution is 2Hz. There are 4096 samples in the captured time data.

For Agilent 35670A, is it possible to increase the Time-Record Length (e.g. from 0.5s to 1s), while maintaining the frequency span at 3.2kHz?

Thanks

No.

Time Record Length = (#Lines)/(freq span)

So you would either need 3200 lines (which is beyond the maximum of 1600 for the 35670A) or a freq. span of 1600 hz to get your 1 sec time period.

Hi BobM3,

Thanks for your reply.

Is "Time Record Length = (#Lines)/(freq span)" a specific relationship for Agilent 35670A, or a general relationship for FFT or DFT algorithm?

Thank you very much
