I've got a part where the original forming tool has been lost (HD crash on the computer that created it). Is there any way to edit the form?

I don't use forms much, but are they really this non-parametric? Is this improved in '08?

They're a total pain to use/edit. The form should be stashed in your part library--is this what's missing? If so, perhaps you can jot down some dimensions from what you've got in your part and use a library form part to create the edits you need. Then select your edited form part to change the feature in SW (as an edit to that feature). This is one interface area I really want to see updated/changed.

It was a custom form. I used it because SWX doesn't pattern sheetmetal features very well (don't get me started). I didn't realize that the form info wasn't stored in the end part like it would in Pro/E would with a library feature.

A related question... do I have to have the form in the Library to get it to work? I'd like to keep it with the part so that it doesn't get lost again.

I think you need it in the library--not sure how to save it with the part file, but that would certainly be nice.

One thing you could do is offset your surfaces (in the form area) by zero, and extrude a solid up to those surfaces. Save that body as a parasolid (or whatever) and import back into SW. You could then include that as a body in the part (and hide it) or add it to an assembly. This way it will hitch a ride with your part wherever the part/assembly goes.
